Alright so I bough this because my local video store had an old unrated VHS copy for sale. Has anyone else seen it? Bale was brilliant as a maniac killer. I guess did anyone else like this movie and did you mind the fact he was a murdering madman? I throughly enjoyed it.

Dude, I thought American Psycho was brilliant. I went to the video store when I was 11 and got it without my mum knowing so I could watch it. If you've read the book, I'm sure you noticed director Mary Harron did a phenomenal job. Bale was great; Patrick Bateman, despite being a womanizing serial murderer cannibal, was actually a like-able character! It truely had its dark comedic moments, which was always great. I was very surprised the Academy didn't give a nom of some sort, as the screenplay was great, so was the effects and editing.
DO NOT see the sequel, American Psycho 2. Probably one of the worst pieces of crap ever made.

The book was great, and you're right the parts she chose to film and focus on made the film seem to have so much more meaning. Bale, as Bateman was incredible, he could have gone wrong in so many ways with that character but he made him seem like someone you might see walking down the street. You mentioned that the Academy didn't give it any sort of nomination, I agree, there are in my opinion quite a few it deserved. I wasn't planning on seeing the sequel so thanks for backing up my point that if the first film is good the second one probably won't be. I love the ending, how Bateman can elude punishment but still it seems, especially when he phones his lawyer, wants to be punished. Maybe not, but that how I took it. I can't imagine seeing it at 11, wow, my friends don't get it when I try to explain it to them, I wish they would though, this film is brilliant, I can't believe so many people have managed to not see it.

This movie WAS good. I watched it on YouTube (no way my parents would ever let me see it!) and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of Christian's best performances, I think.
Know what you mean. Me and my friend were having a deep disscussion on violence in movies (oops, the 'Family Guy' theme song just popped into my head) and she kept bringing up American Psycho- she hasn't seen it. I tried to describe it to her, but she couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that sometimes graphic gore can be necessary. In this movie, it shows you how sick Bateman really is.

XD YES!
You know, just once I'd like to see them say 'Newsies' Actor, Christian Bale in stead of 'Batman' Actor, Christian Bale. *shrug*
